My name is Joseph Hancock and I am a theatre maker.
Most people call me Joe, although this can lead to confusion: if you are looking for the more famous horse, he can be found here.
I’m from a working class background in Dudley in the West Midlands and had little interest in theatre until I discovered a youth theatre as a teenager.
I’ve now spent 10 years making shows, assistant directing and facilitating workshops. I’m interested in theatre that feels live, new and accessible to people who don’t think it is for them.
I have made or worked on shows for buildings including Arena Theatre Wolverhampton, Birmingham Rep, Manchester International Festival, Young Vic, Donmar Warehouse, The Brit School, Pleasance Courtyard, Soho Theatre, VAULT Festival, Discover Children’s Centre and the Almeida.
I am Education Associate at The Old Vic and a Mentor Director for National Theatre Connections.
This website has a selection of my past work, but for more information or to just get in touch, please drop me an email.
